As the airfield is unmanned, standard procedures need to be following in that visiting aircraft must join overhead the airfield at 2000 feet AGL and all radio calls must be addressed to “Uitenhage Traffic’. The radio frequency to use is the same as that of the general flying area, i.e. 124.2MHz.
The standard circuits for runways 16 and 26 are left-hand and for 08 and 34 right-hand. The airfield is located on a small plateau and extra care must be taken for wind down-drafts with all runways, bit especially 26L, 26R and 16L, as there may be downdrafts during the final approach.
The airspace from 500 feet below the Port Elizabeth TMA, excluding the general flying area (FAD193) and Port Elizabeth CTR, forms part of the Port Elizabeth Special Rules Area and radio frequency 130.35 needs to be used.
"All aircraft operating in the Port Elizabeth Special Rules Areas shall maintain a listening watch and broadcast regular position reports on frequency 130.35 MHz."
GPS co-ordinates: S33°47'05", E25°23'01" - Airfield elevation: 278 feet.
