An Overview of Airspace Regulations

EPGC operates from the FAUH airfield which is located in the narrow gap between the General Flying area (FAD193 – otherwise known as the GF) to the west and TMA-B to the east.

We generally do not fly in or under TMA-A or TMB-B which are located to the East, North and South of the airfield. To fly in these TMA’s requires a transponder equipped aircraft and Port Elizabeth Approach must be contacted on 120.4 MHz.

The airfield operates on the same radio frequency as the GF, i.e. 124.2 MHz and not 128.4 MHz.

The GF’s lower level is ground and has an upper level of FL060.

The airspace above the GF and below TMA-G is part of the Port Elizabeth special rules area and PE Approach must be contacted on 120.4 MHz for climbs between FL060 to 7500 feet MSL.

EPGC has signed a Letter of Agreement with ATNS whereby should we require a climb above 7500 feet MSL and into TMA-G (non-transponder equipped) we must speak to PE Approach on 120.4 and they will consider our request should there be no conflicting traffic in the area. Remember to first contact Approach prior to entering the special rules area (i.e. climbs above FL060).
